The Dampire strikes!

So i am quitting my job today

This decision was made 2 months ago during a torrid thunderstorm where thunder and lightening struck at will and winds thrust me in every which direction until i was battered and bruised and could not go go any further.. even trees were uprooted..

In truth there was no storm but this was the state of my life at the time..

So how does it feel to be sitting at work and know that its your last day? Fucking fantastic! Its great to see everyones true emotions and feelings towards you come out. In an office environment conversations are usually based around the same shit and to me its just a vicious cycle. It gets to the point where i've had the same conversation with the same person so many times that I just ignore the person now. Its sad and its not who i am and thats one of the reasons i'm getting outta here. I've learnt that a positive attitude can breed positive attitudes and vice versa and I know i've been an exponent of both intricate skills. Now that I'm on the upside I know that I am making the right choice. As i've been telling everyone - Its like i'm a bird and this birds gotto fly - Got to get out of this cage!

Tis the end of a journey that started 2 and a half years ago. And such wisdom should not be shared. Here is some advice for you:

For any call centre job there is a cycle that you will unknowingly be drawn upon which goes something like:
a) Total exhillaration that you actually have a job

b) Respecting the organisaiton for its rules and scopes and a desire to get to know these to better perform your role

c) Settling in - You're performance is starting to even out statistics wise and you are finding your potential

d) Domination - this will usually be around the 5-6 month period depending on whether you're a boy or a girl. You're performance is peaking, you've won the monthly prize for consistent customer satisfaction and you're call handle time is worthy of a champion! In the 6 months you've worked there there has been a further 4 waves of people coming through due to increase involume of calls and heavy dropouts. You are now a mentor!

e) Complacency - Now that you have Dominated things come second hand. You're willingness to learn is affected by your previous accomplishments. Its ok to be a couple of minutes late from lunch cos you're mates with the team leader and he's out having a smoke half the time with you anyways.

f) Resentment - The boss has complained a couple of times because you have had afew long weekends and he knows you were out on saturday night due to facebook or you were out with some of the work crew. Those statistics that were so precious to you don't mean shit and your boss continues to point out that your stats used to be so good.
(on a serious note at this point you're not being challenged enough and this is why you are having the feeling of resentment - or it could be anger, frustration, anything but happy. Find a new challenge!!)

Ok so at this point you need to either ask for a promotion or move departments or go to a higher level of support/sales or whatever.. Its also okay to get complacent with where you are but the warning signs are there - its a vicious cycle!

The Unlikely Exit:

In 2 hours i plan to go the the toilet, get changed into my halloween costume, then storm the office like a man possessed. Then, with a flick of my cape, i will disappear to the down under bar for drinks and pool with my ex-co-workers!! I've chosen a costume that has mostly vampire elements, complemented with devil horns. Hence the name Dampire!
